Mr. and Mr. Mentzer @ The Peabody

Each year there is one wedding that makes me smile. Bruce and Anthony’s is that one. Certainly, it was beautiful with the ceremony at the Peabody Library; it was planned and executed flawlessly, thanks to Rachel Strisik and team. However, the real beauty was the heartfelt connection between these two amazing people and how happy their friends and family were for this momentous occasion.

The festivities kicked off Friday night with friends coming in from Maryland, Pennsylvania and California, many meeting for the first time, and enjoying dinner at one of Bruce and Anthony’s favorite restaurants, Fleet Street Kitchen. FSK, known for its organic, locally sourced produce and meats, was a perfect spot for Anthony, a trained chef with a passion for food. Many new friendships were formed that night, with Bruce and Anthony as their common thread.

The following morning, I began our day with Anthony and Bruce at the Four Seasons Hotel as they prepared for the upcoming ceremony. After a few photos of the two of them at the Four Seasons, we headed to Baltimore’s historic Mt. Vernon and photographed Bruce and Anthony among the stunning architecture of the neighborhood.3

The ceremony, which was inside the George Peabody Library, was like no other. Among a 300,000 volume book collection, the spiraling staircase, tiers of cast-iron columns, and ornate railings, the stunning mise en scène lent itself to the emotion of the day. By the time the ceremony was over, there was not a dry eye in the house.
The stunning backdrop was enhanced as grapevines and moss dotted the Dutch Connections’ arrangements inspired by California’s wine country. Chef’s Expression regaled the party, with a seated three-course dinner. And then the dancing…

Once on the dance floor, a well-orchestrated flash-mob of friends from both coasts donned Anthony and Bruce T-shirts to perform the song “Happy” performed by Onyx. Was the rest a blur?
Sunday, the finale, was one of the most gorgeous days ever. Everyone was invited to the couple’s farm in scenic Northern Baltimore County to enjoy a pig roast from Blacksauce Kitchen. The whole day was a wonderful laid back, old fashioned summer celebration with lawn games, swimming, and a little rag-time music from the band Bumper Jacksons.
This was the day reserved for the cake cutting – an astounding Sugar Bakers cake that was devoured in no time! It seemed as if everyone was having a fabulous time, including the two goats, a gaggle of geese, and three Alpacas.
