Valentine's Day Wedding at the Lord Baltimore

Catharine Paules and Randy Bielski were married on Valentine’s Day at the historic Lord Baltimore.  Wanting a 1920’s vibe to her wedding, she found a vintage-feel strapless, trumpet style gown covered in lace.  Continuing the 1920’s feel, Catharine sported custom made black and mother of pearl embellished shoes from Emmy of London. The bridemaid’s dresses were from Bella Bridesmaids by Adrianna Papell and were black with silver sequins giving them a flapper-esque feeling.

Catharine and Randy chose the historic and newly renovated Lord Baltimore to continue their 1920’s theme.   Built in 1928, it provided the perfect backdrop for their Great Gatsby styled wedding.  The décor was an elegant gold, black, white and silver. Placed throughout the reception were Great Gatsby quotes in gold frames along with vintage postcards on which guests wrote their well wishes for the newlywed couple. And, at the end of the evening the bride and groom cut an art deco decorated cake by La Cakerie. Catering by Classic Catering.

Kelly and Tim have a special place to relax, have a drink, take in a sunset on the water; Castle Hill Inn, a favorite of Newport, Rhode Island. It’s there, on the lawn, that Tim took a knee for the biggest question of his life. It’s no surprise then that they picked the Evergreen Museum and Library in Baltimore, Maryland to host their wedding. It’s a place with an almost Versailles feel. A feeling they took full advantage of with an outdoor patio wedding with the Chuppha overlooking Evergreen’s garden.

For a photographer, the architecture and grounds lend themselves to every shot taken on a wedding day. Its walkways, its arches, its porches are always dreamy backdrops for the intimate journalistic frame as well as portraits large and small. And that is why the Evergreen Museum and Library is one of the most outstanding venues in Maryland.  The subtle touches of florist Fleur De Lis didn’t overpower but added a splashes of brightness and color to set off the ceremony. Out of the open air and into the night with a reception catered by one of Baltimore’s best Chef’s Expressions, celebration, dancing and joy hosted by the famous band Right On.

In celebration of their love, this autumn wedding in the ever-up-and-coming Fredrick, Maryland, at and around Hollow Creek Golf Club had a simplistic elegance showcasing the union of the Bride and Groom.

Siera and Nick’s wedding was a blast for our photographers. The passion of the family and friends for the bride and groom and their special day was evident every step of the way. The family went out of their way to ensure that this, once-in-a-lifetime moment, was special and memorable. The love the newlyweds gave in return was stated in the size of the wedding party. Nick had 2 best-men and there were a total of 24 bridesmaids and groomsman. When an event is that festive, that large, and that full of love, our photographers just can’t stop taking pictures.

The day began with our team on two separate locations, the bride’s family home in Joppa, Maryland and the groomsmen, along the water in Fells Point. 13 women and their family getting ready for a day like this could be pure chaos. Once we arrived at the Cola residence, Siera rounded everyone up for gift giving and a toast with her bridesmaids. A note of unity, gratitude and joy that carried through out the day’s celebrations.

In the famed waterside Fells Point Neighborhood, the theme was the same. Not only were men gathered for one another, but the brotherly love was clear in the camaraderie and shined through in the pictures.

The Catholic ceremony was held at the Holy Rosary in the Paterson Park area of Baltimore. Siera graced the ornate church in her Mikaella wedding dress. Personal touches were added along the aisle with more flowers from Floral Expressions by Jennifer and framed family photos, along with inspiring quotes.

And onto The Grand Lodge in Hunt Valley for cocktails and dinner by Rouge Catering. The grounds of The Grand Lodge lend itself to photography with rolling hills and sweeping vistas. The interior, of course, can accommodate, with ease, such a large celebration.
We’ve all been let down by catering in our lives. But Rouge, as usual, cannot be outdone. Their professional service maintains everyone’s needs with ease. For Siera and Nick the evening required filet mignon and crab cakes. You have a lot to live up to when serving a crab cake in Maryland, for Marylanders, and Rouge Catering had no trouble.Sachs-Photography-Cola-5

One of the things I love about Maryland are the cultural traditions, many of which (crab cakes) were included in this event. Being Italian and Greek brought other traditions to the wedding from color themes, to the chosen church and best, the dance. Money tossed in the air as the bride and groom joined hands with their revelers and performed an exciting Kalamatianós. It’s a tradition that kept the energy flowing throughout the night.

After toasts, introductions and dancing, all managed fantastically by Koko Brothers Entertainment, it was time for the cake. With their engraved silverware, Siera and Nick attended to the tradition of cutting the cake, a confectioner’s treat by Patisserie Poupon. A close and dear friend of the bride and groom couldn’t wait for table service and slid in to have cake fed to him by the bride and groom. It was just one more example of the newlyweds reciprocating love for all those around them. This is a wedding that will remain in my mind as the way the day should be had.

Each year there is one wedding that makes me smile. Bruce and Anthony’s is that one. Certainly, it was beautiful with the ceremony at the Peabody Library; it was planned and executed flawlessly, thanks to Rachel Strisik and team. However, the real beauty was the heartfelt connection between these two amazing people and how happy their friends and family were for this momentous occasion.

The festivities kicked off Friday night with friends coming in from Maryland, Pennsylvania and California, many meeting for the first time, and enjoying dinner at one of Bruce and Anthony’s favorite restaurants, Fleet Street Kitchen. FSK, known for its organic, locally sourced produce and meats, was a perfect spot for Anthony, a trained chef with a passion for food. Many new friendships were formed that night, with Bruce and Anthony as their common thread.

The following morning, I began our day with Anthony and Bruce at the Four Seasons Hotel as they prepared for the upcoming ceremony. After a few photos of the two of them at the Four Seasons, we headed to Baltimore’s historic Mt. Vernon and photographed Bruce and Anthony among the stunning architecture of the neighborhood.3

The ceremony, which was inside the George Peabody Library, was like no other. Among a 300,000 volume book collection, the spiraling staircase, tiers of cast-iron columns, and ornate railings, the stunning mise en scène lent itself to the emotion of the day. By the time the ceremony was over, there was not a dry eye in the house.
The stunning backdrop was enhanced as grapevines and moss dotted the Dutch Connections’ arrangements inspired by California’s wine country. Chef’s Expression regaled the party, with a seated three-course dinner. And then the dancing…

Once on the dance floor, a well-orchestrated flash-mob of friends from both coasts donned Anthony and Bruce T-shirts to perform the song “Happy” performed by Onyx. Was the rest a blur?
Sunday, the finale, was one of the most gorgeous days ever. Everyone was invited to the couple’s farm in scenic Northern Baltimore County to enjoy a pig roast from Blacksauce Kitchen. The whole day was a wonderful laid back, old fashioned summer celebration with lawn games, swimming, and a little rag-time music from the band Bumper Jacksons.
This was the day reserved for the cake cutting – an astounding Sugar Bakers cake that was devoured in no time! It seemed as if everyone was having a fabulous time, including the two goats, a gaggle of geese, and three Alpacas.
