Valentine's Day Wedding at the Lord Baltimore

Catharine Paules and Randy Bielski were married on Valentine’s Day at the historic Lord Baltimore.  Wanting a 1920’s vibe to her wedding, she found a vintage-feel strapless, trumpet style gown covered in lace.  Continuing the 1920’s feel, Catharine sported custom made black and mother of pearl embellished shoes from Emmy of London. The bridemaid’s dresses were from Bella Bridesmaids by Adrianna Papell and were black with silver sequins giving them a flapper-esque feeling.

Catharine and Randy chose the historic and newly renovated Lord Baltimore to continue their 1920’s theme.   Built in 1928, it provided the perfect backdrop for their Great Gatsby styled wedding.  The décor was an elegant gold, black, white and silver. Placed throughout the reception were Great Gatsby quotes in gold frames along with vintage postcards on which guests wrote their well wishes for the newlywed couple. And, at the end of the evening the bride and groom cut an art deco decorated cake by La Cakerie. Catering by Classic Catering.

Kaysi and Ed’s wedding was one of my absolute favorites this year. Beautiful, intimate and a delightful family affair. A candlelit Mt. Washington Tavern served as the backdrop. Along with gorgeous florals in mint julep cups, the wedding was lent a hunt country feel.

So let’s relax in a surprisingly elegant and intimate space and have some drinks, some cake, some celebration and don’t forget the rooftop patio.

It is coming of age, like marriage, where we cross from the youth of our past to the adult of our future.

It is the elegance of the George Peabody Library, harps and soloists.

It is the edgy, vintage, Etsy, collectable. I’m in love with the cards and card catalogue drawers.

Emma takes small pieces, removes them from their context and reassigns their function. She creates a unique expression of the bride and groom by bringing simplicity into focus.

The attention to detail, to the simple, to the small, to the essence creates a beautiful wedding and exhibits the success of relationships.

Kelly and Tim have a special place to relax, have a drink, take in a sunset on the water; Castle Hill Inn, a favorite of Newport, Rhode Island. It’s there, on the lawn, that Tim took a knee for the biggest question of his life. It’s no surprise then that they picked the Evergreen Museum and Library in Baltimore, Maryland to host their wedding. It’s a place with an almost Versailles feel. A feeling they took full advantage of with an outdoor patio wedding with the Chuppha overlooking Evergreen’s garden.

For a photographer, the architecture and grounds lend themselves to every shot taken on a wedding day. Its walkways, its arches, its porches are always dreamy backdrops for the intimate journalistic frame as well as portraits large and small. And that is why the Evergreen Museum and Library is one of the most outstanding venues in Maryland.  The subtle touches of florist Fleur De Lis didn’t overpower but added a splashes of brightness and color to set off the ceremony. Out of the open air and into the night with a reception catered by one of Baltimore’s best Chef’s Expressions, celebration, dancing and joy hosted by the famous band Right On.

If you want Fireworks and the Blue Angels for your wedding and your Dad’s title is not P.O.T.U.S. or even V. P.O.T.U.S. Carrie and Kevin Creedon can give you a tip. Get married on a weekend and in a city that is celebrating something patriotic, something of nationwide importance, something historic, like the Boston Tea Party or The American Revolution, or Hey, 4th of July, or in this case the 200th Anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner. Who knew it would be such a big deal?
Untitled-1
For Carrie and Kevin I think it may have been a little more than luck or coincidence, I think there patriotism, like their religion runs a little deeper.
God, Country and Family? A Catholic Wedding at the famed Basilica, a reception at the Star Spangled Banner House, on the anniversary of the song? Yeah, all signs of some things held close to the heart.

Did I mention Blue Angels? To celebrate with the Creedons, the Blue Angels felt a fly-by, post ceremony, during the portraits would be just right. And it was.
Summer in Baltimore can be a little muggy. But September can be perfect. And it really was. Though the day started with rain by the afternoon the sun was out to host cocktail hour in the Banner House’s gardens.

Clear skies made way for a final send off with seven sets of Fireworks surrounding the reception. Step aside Kim and Kanye, I think the Creedon’s Star Spangled wedding trumped the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

In celebration of their love, this autumn wedding in the ever-up-and-coming Fredrick, Maryland, at and around Hollow Creek Golf Club had a simplistic elegance showcasing the union of the Bride and Groom.

Shoes? Check. Dress? Check. Rings? Check. Looks like someone’s getting…
2
Just get some life-long loved ones together.
3
Gather those that mean the most and make them bring a Dress and a Tux.
4
Because this day is a celebration, a party in ones life like few others.
5
And where in Baltimore does one go for such a party? In their dresses and their tuxes, with their flowers and their adoration for one another? There are a few choices, definitely more than a couple.
6
But not many as photogenic, with all there is to love about Maryland as Harbor East and the Marriott Waterfront. There is nothing to a Marylander that signifies home, that warms the soul more than the sounds of boats gently rocking in the water, dinging, the chirp of gulls and the scent of salt in the air. Hold please while I slip on my Sperry’s.
7
Oh no, I gotta keep my tux on, just a bit longer to enjoy the elegance of a ballroom with pedestals and flowers and the photo, that one of many but that one of the bride, frozen in time, her dress in full flair as she moves down the aisle, all those who’ve come pause, taking a breath of the sublime.
8
Ahh, and now we can exhale, let loose and celebrate.
9
Celebrate the first day of the rest of our lives.

Weddings, guys in tuxes, gals in dresses, mother-in-laws-to-be, churches, receptions, drinks, food, dancing, repeat. Yet sometimes, the passion and uniqueness really shines through. Sometimes, as an editor I open the files and think men in tuxes, women in dresses. And then it unfolds…

Sachsevergreen1

Nabely and Mike getting married are just that. First a bride and groom getting ready for a wedding (this happens thousands of times a Saturday). And then just how beautiful Nabely is begins to shine through, how excited and in love she is begins to appear as she becomes comfortable with the camera. This, this happens a lot. It’s our job as photographers, get the bride and then the groom comfy, get them used to us, and then capture it all as they celebrate.

Sachsevergreen2

Then there is Mike. It’s a Saturday in the world and there is a guy in a tux making one of the biggest commitments of his life. Sometimes, in a groom, you can see their awareness of the gravity of the decision.

SAchsevergreen3

As I continued editing this wedding there were many amazing things that made the day shine. The Basilica of Mt. Vernon, an absolutely beautiful cathedral, and a reception at the Evergreen, a Historic beautiful building that’s also a Museum and Library on a chunk of land maintained for the purpose of being seen. The right touches of Southern significance and classy shabby chic in both the venue and the details. At the Evergreen, with an amazing catering provided by Taliya at Linwoods; flowers by Wicked Willow, Lighting by Event Dynamics and all coordinated by Becky Vanderbeck at Simply Chic, you really just couldn’t go wrong.

As the images move on we learn a few things. We learn the bride is really funny and very excited to marry Mike. But of Mike we see his boyish excitement, his love for his friends and more than anything, we see his charm. We can see in the pictures the charm and honest love that Mike stole Nabely’s heart, and leaving her no choice but to steal his last name.

Congratulations Nabely and Mike.
